Buttock & Hip Contouring
Buttock Aesthetics in Istanbul
Buttock aesthetics covers surgical approaches to shaping the buttocks, hips and waist, from fat transfer and liposculpture to gluteal implants. Because some of these procedures carry serious recognised risks, safety, surgeon selection and an accredited hospital setting are central to every decision.

Women considering buttock surgery usually want better proportion rather than simply more volume: a smoother transition from waist to hip, fuller upper buttocks, softened hip dips or restored shape after weight loss or pregnancy. The main surgical options are the Brazilian butt lift (BBL), which transfers your own fat after liposuction, buttock augmentation with silicone gluteal implants, and hip contouring, which combines liposuction and fat transfer around the flanks and hips. Each has different benefits, limitations and risks, and an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon will recommend an approach based on your anatomy, available fat and health rather than a trend.
Liposculpture is the principle that links many of these procedures. Rather than removing fat evenly, the surgeon sculpts selectively, reducing fat in areas such as the flanks, lower back and waist while preserving or relocating it to areas that benefit from volume. Body proportion surgery applies this thinking to the whole silhouette, focusing on the waist-to-hip relationship and how the buttocks, hips, thighs and lower back flow together. Often, careful reduction of the waist and lower back does as much for the outline as added volume, and smaller, safer fat transfer volumes can then achieve a balanced result.
Fat transfer outcomes depend on how much transferred fat survives, which varies between individuals and cannot be predicted precisely; some volume is always reabsorbed in the early months. Implants provide more predictable volume but bring their own risks, including infection, malposition and wound healing problems. Whichever approach is considered, you should expect a full medical assessment, a frank discussion of risks and a plan for monitoring and aftercare. Results vary between individuals.

Safety first
BBL & Buttock Surgery Safety
The Brazilian butt lift has historically been associated with a higher risk of death than many other cosmetic procedures. The most serious danger is fat embolism, which can occur when fat is injected into or beneath the gluteal muscle and enters the large veins in that region, travelling to the heart and lungs. This complication can be sudden and fatal. It is the main reason international plastic surgery societies have issued specific safety guidance for gluteal fat grafting, and why we never present BBL as a minor or routine procedure.
Current multi-society guidance emphasises that fat should be placed only in the subcutaneous layer, beneath the skin and above the gluteal muscle, and never into or under the muscle. Techniques that help surgeons keep the cannula in the correct plane, careful cannula angle and size, and in some practices ultrasound guidance, all support this principle. Subcutaneous-only injection lowers the risk of the most dangerous complication, but it does not eliminate it, and other serious risks remain.
Safety also depends on who performs the procedure and where. Buttock surgery should be carried out by a board-certified plastic surgeon with specific experience in gluteal procedures, in an accredited hospital operating theatre with a qualified anaesthesia team, appropriate monitoring and access to intensive care if needed. Patient selection matters as much as technique: good general health, a stable and suitable BMI, no smoking, and realistic goals about size and shape. Larger volumes are not automatically better, and a responsible surgeon will decline or modify a plan if the volume requested is unsafe.
After surgery, you should be monitored in hospital and supported through recovery, including measures to reduce the risk of venous thromboembolism such as early mobilisation, compression and, where appropriate, medication. Be cautious of budget packages, unusually short schedules, very large promised volumes or procedures in non-hospital settings. Women's Health Istanbul coordinates care with independent surgeons working in private hospitals and encourages every patient to ask direct questions about technique, setting and emergency arrangements before deciding.
- Fat should be injected only into the subcutaneous layer, never into or beneath the gluteal muscle
- Choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with specific, verifiable experience in gluteal surgery
- Surgery should take place in an accredited hospital operating theatre with a qualified anaesthesia team
- A full medical assessment, including health, BMI and smoking status, should precede any decision
- Fat volumes should be guided by safety and anatomy, not by the largest possible result
- Expect a plan for post-operative monitoring and prevention of blood clots (VTE)
- Avoid budget packages, compressed schedules and non-hospital settings
- Ask your surgeon directly how they manage gluteal safety and what emergency arrangements are in place

Buttock Aesthetics: questions
Is a BBL safe?
No surgery is without risk. BBL has historically been associated with a higher risk of fatal fat embolism than many other cosmetic procedures, particularly when fat was placed into or beneath the gluteal muscle. Current safety guidance emphasises injecting fat only into the layer beneath the skin and above the muscle, performed by an experienced plastic surgeon in an accredited hospital. This reduces risk but does not remove it.
Should I choose fat transfer or buttock implants?
Fat transfer suits women with enough donor fat who also want contouring of the waist and back; results can feel natural but fat survival varies. Implants may suit slimmer women with little donor fat, but involve risks such as infection, malposition and wound breakdown. Your surgeon will advise after examination.
What is body proportion surgery?
It describes planning surgery around the overall silhouette, especially the waist-to-hip relationship. It typically combines liposuction to refine the waist, flanks and back with fat transfer to the hips or buttocks where suitable.
How long should I stay in Istanbul after buttock surgery?
Most surgeons advise staying around 10–14 days so that early recovery can be monitored and you can be reviewed before flying. Your surgeon will advise based on your procedure and recovery.
How much does buttock surgery cost in Turkey?
Cost depends on the surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, procedure type, extent of liposuction, implants if used, hospital stay, compression garments and accommodation. A personalised written quote follows assessment. Choose your surgeon and hospital based on medical quality, not price alone.
Can I sit after buttock surgery?
Sitting restrictions are common after both BBL and implants, often for several weeks, to protect transferred fat or implant position. A special cushion may be advised. Your surgeon will give specific instructions.
