Body Contouring

360° Liposuction in Istanbul

360° liposuction treats the abdomen, waist, flanks and back in one procedure to create a more balanced contour around the entire torso. Because it covers a larger surface area than single-area liposuction, careful planning of fat volumes, anaesthesia and thrombosis prevention is essential. Results vary between individuals.

What is 360° Liposuction?

360° liposuction, also called circumferential liposuction, addresses the torso as a continuous unit rather than treating the front or sides in isolation. It usually includes the upper and lower abdomen, waist, flanks, and upper and lower back, and sometimes the area just above the buttocks. Treating these regions together can help reduce the step-off that occurs when one area is slimmed and an adjacent one is not.

It is not a weight-loss procedure and is most appropriate for women at a stable weight, with a BMI their surgeon considers safe and good skin quality. Because the patient is repositioned during surgery and larger volumes may be removed, the procedure is longer than standard liposuction and requires an experienced surgical and anaesthesia team. In some women it is combined with fat transfer, which raises additional safety considerations.

Who may be suitable?

  • You have excess fat around the abdomen, waist, flanks and back despite a stable weight
  • Your BMI is within a range your surgeon considers safe for circumferential liposuction
  • Your skin has good elasticity without significant abdominal overhang
  • You are in good general health with no untreated clotting disorder
  • You do not smoke, or will stop for the period your surgeon advises
  • You understand that the goal is contour, not weight reduction

What can this procedure address?

  • Fullness around the waist and 'love handles'
  • Bra-line and lower back fat
  • Lack of definition between waist and hips
  • Uneven contour where previous liposuction treated only part of the torso
  • Abdominal fat in women with good skin tone

Consultation & assessment

You can begin with an online assessment, sending photos from the front, sides and back confidentially along with your medical history and measurements. An independent surgeon can then advise whether 360° liposuction appears suitable or whether loose skin or muscle separation means a tummy tuck may be more appropriate.

An in-person examination in Istanbul takes place before surgery is confirmed. Your surgeon will assess fat distribution, skin quality and abdominal wall tone, review blood tests and discuss safe volume limits, VTE prevention, compression and whether any fat transfer is being considered.

How the procedure is performed

Treatment areas are marked with you standing. Under general anaesthesia, tumescent fluid is infiltrated around the torso and fat is removed through small incisions. You will usually be repositioned during surgery so that the back and flanks can be treated as well as the front.

The surgeon aims to blend each area smoothly into the next, leaving an even layer of fat beneath the skin to reduce the risk of irregularity. The total volume removed is limited according to your health and safety considerations. A compression garment is placed at the end of the procedure.

Anaesthesia

360° liposuction is performed under general anaesthesia given by an anaesthesiologist. The anaesthesia team monitors fluid balance closely and will advise on measures to reduce thrombosis risk, which may include compression devices and medication.

Recovery timeline

  1. Days 1–3

Significant swelling, bruising and tightness around the torso are expected. Fluid may drain from incisions. You will walk early and wear compression continuously.

  2. Week 1

Pain usually eases, though you may tire easily. Your surgeon reviews you and checks garment fit before you travel.

  3. Weeks 2–3

Bruising fades and many women return to desk-based work. Firmness or lumpiness may be felt as tissues settle.

  4. Week 6

Most swelling has reduced; strenuous exercise may be gradually reintroduced with your surgeon's approval.

  5. 3–6 months

Residual swelling continues to resolve and contour becomes more defined.

  6. 12 months

Final result is usually established. Results vary between individuals.

What to expect during the first week

  • Wear your compression garment continuously except when showering
  • Walk several times daily and avoid prolonged periods of lying still
  • Sleep in a position your surgeon recommends, often on your back with support
  • Use prescribed pain relief and anticoagulant medication as directed
  • Monitor incisions for redness, increasing pain or discharge

When can I fly?

Surgeons commonly advise staying around 7–10 days before a long-haul flight after circumferential liposuction. Wear compression, keep well hydrated, walk during the flight and take any prescribed anticoagulant, as long journeys add to post-operative thrombosis risk.

When can I return to work?

Most women return to desk-based work after about 2 weeks. Physically active jobs may require 3–4 weeks or more, depending on how you feel and your surgeon's advice.

When can I exercise?

Walking is encouraged from the first day. Light exercise often resumes after 3 weeks and strenuous activity, including core and high-impact training, usually after 6 weeks.

Scars

Several small incisions are placed around the torso, often in natural creases or the bikini area. These usually fade well over 6–12 months, though pigmentation varies with skin type.

Results

A smoother, more proportionate torso is the aim, but swelling obscures the outcome for several months. Consented before and after photographs can be reviewed during consultation. Results vary between individuals.

How long do results last?

Removed fat cells do not regenerate, but weight gain can enlarge remaining fat cells and alter the result. Stable weight and an active lifestyle help maintain the contour.

Potential risks and complications

All surgical procedures carry risks. Your surgeon will discuss the potential benefits, limitations and individual risks with you before you decide whether to proceed.

  • Contour irregularity, rippling or asymmetry
  • Seroma, particularly over the lower back and flanks
  • Bleeding, bruising and haematoma
  • Infection
  • Numbness or altered skin sensation
  • Loose skin if elasticity is insufficient
  • Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (VTE)
  • Fat embolism, rare but potentially serious
  • Fluid imbalance and anaesthetic risks with larger volumes

Choosing a surgeon

  • Check specialist training and registration in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery
  • Verify registration with the Turkish Medical Association and relevant society memberships
  • Ask how many circumferential procedures the surgeon performs and how volume limits are set
  • Review consented before and after photographs of 360° liposuction patients
  • Confirm surgery takes place in a hospital with an anaesthesia team and overnight monitoring

360° Liposuction: frequently asked questions

What areas does 360° liposuction include?

It typically includes the upper and lower abdomen, waist, flanks and upper and lower back. The exact areas are agreed with your surgeon based on your anatomy.

How long should I stay in Istanbul?

Usually 7–10 days, depending on your recovery and your surgeon's review.

When can I fly home?

Often after 7–10 days for long-haul flights, once your surgeon is satisfied. Wear compression and move regularly during the journey.

How much does 360° liposuction cost in Turkey?

Costs depend on surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, surgical time, combined procedures, hospital stay and accommodation. A written quote is provided after assessment. Choose your surgeon and hospital based on medical quality, not price alone.

Is 360° liposuction the same as a tummy tuck?

No. 360° liposuction removes fat but does not remove loose skin or repair separated abdominal muscles. If those are concerns, a tummy tuck may be recommended instead or as well.

What results can I expect and can I see before and after photos?

The aim is a smoother, more balanced torso. Consented before and after photos are reviewed during consultation. Results vary between individuals.
