Breast Surgery in Istanbul
Breast surgery is one of the most personal decisions a woman can make, and it deserves unhurried, honest information. We help international women understand their options in Istanbul — from augmentation and lifting to reduction and implant revision — and connect them with experienced, independent licensed surgeons.

Women consider breast surgery for many reasons: breasts that have never developed to the size they would like, volume loss and drooping after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight change, noticeable asymmetry, or the neck, back and shoulder discomfort that can accompany very large breasts. Others are living with implants placed years ago and want to understand whether replacement, revision or removal is appropriate. Each of these situations calls for a different conversation, and often a different operation.
A careful assessment looks at more than cup size. Your surgeon will consider skin quality, the position of the nipple relative to the breast fold, breast tissue volume, chest wall shape, your plans for pregnancy and breastfeeding, and your breast screening history. Where implants are involved, the discussion should cover implant type, shape, profile and surface, placement above or below the muscle, incision site, the recognised long-term risks such as capsular contracture and BIA-ALCL, and the fact that breast implants are not lifetime devices. You should leave the consultation with written information about your specific implants, including an implant card or device documentation.
Istanbul has a large community of experienced plastic surgeons and modern private hospitals, and many international patients value the ability to have surgery and an initial recovery period within a coordinated plan. Depending on the surgeon and procedure, treatments may be performed at leading private hospitals in Istanbul, including LIV Hospital Vadistanbul, Memorial Bahçelievler and selected Acıbadem hospitals. As an independent coordination and information platform, we do not perform surgery ourselves; our role is to help you prepare, ask the right questions and choose a surgeon and hospital based on medical quality, not price alone.

Safety first
Understanding breast implant safety
Breast implants are medical devices with a finite lifespan. They are not intended to last a lifetime, and many women will need further surgery at some point, whether for capsular contracture, rupture, a change in position or a wish to change size. Planning for this from the outset is part of an informed decision.
Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare type of lymphoma that can develop in the scar capsule around an implant, usually years after surgery. It has been associated mainly with textured-surface implants. It typically presents as late swelling or a fluid collection around the implant and, when diagnosed early, is usually treated by removing the implant and capsule. Separately, some women describe a range of systemic symptoms, such as fatigue, joint pain or difficulty concentrating, that they attribute to their implants, often called breast implant illness. It is not yet well understood, and research is ongoing; some women report improvement after implant removal, though this is not predictable.
- Ask which manufacturer, model, size, shape and surface your implants are, and keep your implant card
- Ask whether your implants will be recorded in a national or manufacturer device registry
- Report new swelling, a lump, pain or a change in shape at any time after surgery
- Tell breast screening services you have implants so the correct imaging views are used

Breast Aesthetics: questions
Which breast procedure is right for me?
It depends on what you would like to change. Implants add volume; a breast lift (mastopexy) raises and reshapes the breast and repositions the nipple; a reduction removes tissue and skin; and some women need a combination. An honest assessment of your skin, nipple position and tissue volume is the starting point, which is why we begin with a confidential online review of photographs followed by an in-person examination in Istanbul.
Are breast implants safe?
Modern breast implants are among the most widely studied medical devices, but no surgery or implant is free of risk. Recognised issues include capsular contracture, rupture, implant malposition, the need for further surgery over time, and BIA-ALCL, a rare lymphoma associated mainly with textured implants. Some women also report a range of symptoms described as breast implant illness. A good surgeon will discuss all of these openly and provide device documentation for your implants.
How long should I stay in Istanbul for breast surgery?
Most women are advised to stay around 7–10 days, allowing for a pre-operative consultation, surgery, the first post-operative checks and a review before flying. Combined procedures, such as a breast lift with a tummy tuck, usually require a longer stay. Your surgeon will advise on your individual plan.
Can I still breastfeed after breast surgery?
Many women can breastfeed after breast augmentation, particularly when the incision avoids the areola and the implant is placed beneath the muscle or gland without disturbing ducts. Lifts and reductions can affect milk ducts and nerves to a greater degree, and breastfeeding may be reduced or not possible. If you plan to have children, discuss this before surgery; many surgeons suggest waiting until family planning is complete.
Will breast surgery affect mammograms?
Implants can partly obscure breast tissue on mammography, so radiographers use additional displacement views. Lifts and reductions can create scar tissue or small calcifications that may be visible on imaging. Always tell your screening service that you have had breast surgery, and bring any recent imaging to your consultation.
How much does breast surgery cost in Turkey?
Cost depends on the procedure, the surgeon's experience, the hospital, anaesthesia, the implant manufacturer and type, whether procedures are combined, the length of hospital stay, and accommodation and aftercare. You receive a personalised written quote after assessment. We encourage women to choose their surgeon and hospital based on medical quality, not price alone.
