What is Breast Lift with Implants?

After pregnancy and breastfeeding, many women notice that the breast has lost volume, particularly in the upper part, and has also descended, with the nipple sitting lower. An implant alone may not lift the breast enough, while a lift alone may not restore fullness. Augmentation mastopexy combines both, repositioning the nipple and tightening the skin while placing an implant for volume.

This is a more complex operation than either procedure alone because the surgeon must balance the lifting forces with the stretching effect of an implant. In some cases surgeons recommend staging the operations several months apart for safety and predictability. All the implant considerations — type, surface, placement, BIA-ALCL, capsular contracture and the fact that implants are not lifetime devices — apply.

Who may be suitable?

  • Women whose breasts have both drooped and lost volume
  • Those with low nipple position and empty upper breasts after children
  • Women after significant weight loss with deflated breasts
  • Women in good health, at a stable weight and ideally non-smokers
  • Those who have completed their family or understand future pregnancy may change results
  • Women who accept the scars of a lift and the long-term care of implants

What can this procedure address?

  • Drooping combined with volume loss
  • Low or downward-pointing nipples
  • Flattened upper breasts
  • Stretched skin after pregnancy or weight loss
  • Asymmetry in size and position

Consultation & assessment

Begin with a confidential online assessment with photographs sent securely, your medical and pregnancy history and any recent breast imaging. The team will advise on whether a one-stage or staged approach may be suggested.

Surgery is confirmed after an in-person examination in Istanbul, where your surgeon measures skin, nipple position and tissue, discusses implant type, size and placement, scars, sensation, breastfeeding, mammography and the long-term implications of implants.

How the procedure is performed

The surgeon typically creates a pocket for the implant first, often in the dual-plane position, and places a silicone gel implant chosen for your frame. The lift is then tailored around it, removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple and areola.

Incision patterns are similar to those of a lift — periareolar, vertical or anchor — depending on how much skin needs to be removed. Implants are usually moderate in size, as large implants can work against the lift and increase the risk of complications.

The incisions are closed in layers and a surgical bra is fitted. Drains may be used briefly.

Anaesthesia

Augmentation mastopexy is performed under general anaesthesia by a qualified anaesthetist, usually with one night in hospital.

Recovery timeline

  1. Days 1–3

Soreness, tightness and swelling; rest with regular short walks.

  2. Week 1

Discomfort eases. Wound checks take place.

  3. Weeks 2–3

Desk-based work and light activities often resume.

  4. Week 6

Gradual return to exercise as advised.

  5. 3–6 months

Implants settle and the breast shape softens.

  6. 12 months

Scars mature and the shape approaches its long-term appearance.

What to expect during the first week

  • Wear your surgical bra day and night
  • Sleep on your back, propped up
  • Avoid lifting and overhead reaching
  • Walk gently several times a day
  • Follow wound care instructions
  • Report one-sided swelling, fever, redness or nipple colour change promptly

When can I fly?

Most women fly home after around 10–12 days, following a surgeon's review. Walk regularly, stay hydrated and wear compression stockings if advised to reduce the risk of blood clots.

When can I return to work?

Desk-based work is often possible after 2–3 weeks; physical roles may need 4–6 weeks.

When can I exercise?

Walking from the first day is encouraged; strenuous and upper-body exercise usually waits around 6 weeks, with your surgeon's guidance.

Scars

Scars follow the lift pattern — around the areola, often vertically and sometimes in the crease. They are permanent but usually fade over 12–18 months.

Results

The breasts are lifted and fuller, with the shape refining over several months as the implants settle. Results vary between individuals. Consented before and after photographs are reviewed during consultation.

How long do results last?

The lift is long-lasting but continues to be influenced by ageing, gravity and weight change. Implants are not lifetime devices and may need replacement or revision in future. Keep your implant card and documentation.

Potential risks and complications

All surgical procedures carry risks. Your surgeon will discuss the potential benefits, limitations and individual risks with you before you decide whether to proceed.

  • Bleeding, haematoma and infection
  • Wound healing problems at the junction of scars
  • Capsular contracture
  • Implant rupture, malposition or visibility
  • Nipple sensation changes and, rarely, nipple or areola loss
  • Recurrence of drooping or bottoming-out
  • Asymmetry and a relatively higher rate of revision than single procedures
  • BIA-ALCL, a rare lymphoma associated mainly with textured implants
  • Breast implant illness symptoms reported by some women
  • Effects on breastfeeding and mammography; risks of anaesthesia and blood clots

Choosing a surgeon

  • Specialist plastic surgery training and registration verifiable through the Turkish Medical Association and relevant societies
  • Specific experience in augmentation mastopexy, including staged approaches
  • Consented before and after photographs of similar cases
  • Privileges at an accredited private hospital

Breast Lift with Implants: frequently asked questions

How long should I stay in Istanbul after a breast lift with implants?

Usually around 10–12 days, depending on your recovery and whether other procedures are combined.

When can I fly home?

Often after 10–12 days and a surgeon's review. Take steps to reduce the risk of blood clots during the flight.

Should I have the lift and implants together or in stages?

Many women can have both in one operation. In some cases, such as large lifts or very thin tissue, a surgeon may recommend staging for safety and predictability.

Can I combine this with a tummy tuck?

Yes, this is often part of a mommy makeover. Combining procedures increases operating time and recovery, so your surgeon will assess whether it is appropriate for you.

How much does a breast lift with implants cost in Turkey?

It depends on the surgeon, hospital, anaesthesia, implant type, complexity and accommodation. A personalised written quote follows assessment.

Can I see before and after photos?

Consented before and after photographs are reviewed during consultation. Results vary between individuals.
